Archiving team in UP posts old mining documents
MARQUETTE, Mich. (AP) -- An archiving team at Northern Michigan University in Marquette is offering an online glimpse into what the mining industry looked like a century ago.
WLUC-TV reports the Central Upper Peninsula and Northern Michigan University Archives scanned more than 70,000 documents related to mining, as well as more than 500 maps and about 200 photos. Staff worked for more than a year on the effort.
The Cleveland-Cliffs Iron Company digitization project was funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission. The records span from 1882-1960.

Fraud charge filed in woman $1M scam, feds say
GARDEN CITY, Mich. (AP) -- A Detroit-area woman accused of promising 10 percent monthly returns to investors has been charged with fraud.
The federal case against Candice Campbell was filed Monday as a criminal "information," which means the charge was negotiated and a guilty plea is likely.
Authorities say more than $1 million was collected from investors in less than 18 months but a majority went for Campbell's own personal benefit. The government says she sponsored her boyfriend's softball team and bought jewelry, furniture, cars, vacations and laser surgery.
Campbell hung up the phone and declined to comment.
The criminal case comes less than a year after the Securities and Exchange Commission filed a lawsuit to shut down C.J.'s Financial, which was run by Campbell. She lives in Garden City.
